Purpose: To highlight some possible associated features and considerations in the management of persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV). Methods: A series of cases of PHPV are presented. Results : Four cases of unilateral PHPV are presented. In one the mother had taken clomiphene during conception. In another, anti-epileptic medication (carbamazepine) had been taken throughout pregnancy. This case had an associated orbital lymphohaemangioma. A further case demonstrated high tone deafness and developmental delay. Two of the cases were treated conservatively, the others surgically. Conclusion: PHPV can occur de novo, or as a result of genetic or teratogenic influences. Other ocular features may co-exist. Management involves surgical intervention or more conservative treatment.
