Introduction: Sleep disease is in general transmitted by Tse-Tse fly and may present ocular signs and symptons as photofobia, congestion, lid edema, interstitial keratitis and anterior uveites. Case report: The authors describe the retinian lesions observed in an afro-american child, 19 months old, born and resident in the United States of America, with a portuguese mother and an afro-brazilian father. The clinical history was hospitalization in USA at 7 and 16 months, caused by intermitent fever, loss of weight and lymphadenopaty. Back in Portugal, serology revealed positivity for Trypanosoma Gambiensis. The ocular examination revealed multiple round images scattered on the fundus of both the eyes without activity aspect. The child was treated with Effornithine, with success without relevant lateral effects. Conclusion: To our known, this is the first description of sexual and mother-child transmission of sleeep disease.
